As a dedicated junior golfer with a deep commitment to his faith, Cathan Yap embodies the core values of integrity, discipline, and leadership. As a first generation American, rooted by family and culture, Cathan understands the importance of perseverance, diligence, and resilience. Adversity and the drive to succeed has taught Cathan to prepare and develop himself for success. Guided by the motto Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam - for the greater glory of God - Cathan approaches golf, academics, business, and personal growth with a mindset of servitude, and humility. On the golf course, Cathan not only strives for success, but also seeks to inspire and lead others by example while remaining humble, reflecting these values in his performance and mentality. 

At an early age, Cathan had started with plastic clubs at age 3. Young Cathan would love to spend hours on his home course in Tucson, Arizona. Cathan would just love making as many swings as possible and seeing the ball gain height. Coming from an immigrant background, Cathan has always cherished his opportunity to resources and the simple ability to enjoy golf. At the age of 10, Cathan moved to Aurora, Colorado. Cathan began his first competitive event at Age 11 and was shooting in the low 100s. After realizing that shooting in the 100s was a difficult way to play the game, Cathan had a switch in mentality. He learned that winning requires over 100% effort and promises nothing. Winning was understood as a difficult and constantly elusive goal. Since then, that goal has been forever chased in Cathan's work ethic and diligence. At age 12, Cathan broke 90 for the first time and later in the year would break 80. During the pandemic, Cathan spent all of middle school in virtual classes which gave him the opportunity to practice and train like never before. At age 13, Cathan began shooting mid to high 70s with over 10 hour practice days. By age 15, Cathan was a top 20 ranked junior golfer in Colorado. By he end of 2022, Cathan had moved to Waxhaw, North Carolina. The change in environment and competitive atmosphere was difficult to adapt to at first. Cathan soon discovered the adaptive nature of his mindset that would carry on today. Now Cathan embarks on the dream to play for a top performing academic and athletic university.
